R. T. Frazier Saddlery Builder of the Famous Pueblo Saddle

The “Builder of the Famous Pueblo Saddle” phrase was what helped to make Robert Thompson Frazier the largest stock saddle maker by 1917. R. T. Frazier started his saddle making career in Colorado Springs, CO working for Peter Becker in the 1870s. Robert Thompson Frazier moved to Pueblo, Colorado somewhere in the early 1880s and being a shrewd businessman, by the mid 1880s he was in partnership with S. C. Gallup another famous saddle maker of the time. It was not until 1892 that the partners formed the S. C. Gallup & Frazier Saddlery and the short run ended by 1898 with R. T. Frazier retaining the “Builder of the Famous Pueblo Saddle” tag line that made R. T. Frazier one of the most famous saddle makers of the American West. A large portion of R. T. Frazier’s wealth was attributable to his use of mail order and advertising as well as Real Estate and other investments. The R. T. Frazier home is located at 2121 North Elizabeth in Pueblo, CO this home has long been listed on the National List of Historic places. At the peak of production the R. T. Frazier Saddlery employed over 50 saddle makers as well as other staff and office help. The R. T. Frazier was open and in business until 1958 and was owned and run by the Frazier family throughout the existence of the saddlery. Robert Thompson Frazier was born in approximately 1850 and lived until July 27, 1931 when he passed away at the age of 81 Years old, Frazier was survived by his wife (Kitty) Katherine R. Henley Frazier she passed away December 21, 1959. It was Kitty who ran the saddlery from the time of R. T. Frazier’s death until closing the saddler in 1958.
