Sherman Loomis is a famous early California Saddler who opened his first Saddlery in Santa Barbara, California in the 1850s. Sherman Loomis originally moved to Santa Barbara, CA from Pennsylvania in his early 30s and from that point he operated one of the most successful early American Old West Saddleries. The Sherman Loomis Saddlery operated in Santa Barbara at 714 State Street at the time of its closing in the later 1890s. It was in 1898 that Ira Loomis closed the business and sold to the Tomlinson Brothers Saddlery and took a position himself at a different Saddlery & Harness Company.
