E. L. Gallatin Saddlery |

Edward L. Gallatin was a Famous Saddle Maker in Denver Colorado which
was the base of his operations from 1860 throughout his life until his
death in 1906. E. L. Gallatin was born in St. Louis Missouri in 1828
and from 1845 until 1850 he starting learning the art of Saddle Making
from Thorton Grimsley in St. Louis a saddle maker from the early 1800s
through the mid 1800s.
After learning the craft E. L. Gallatin took his skills to work for
John Landis and in 1860 the pair moved to Denver, CO by 1863 E. L.
Gallatin bought out John Landis and went into Partnership with Francis
Gallup the older brother of S. C. Gallup. The Company was now named
E. L. Gallatin & Company and 2 years later the Company was renamed
Gallup & Gallatin. The Business grew to have Saddle Shops located in
Cheyenne, Wyoming and Nebraska City, Nebraska and as the next few
years went by both Gallatin & Gallup became involved in projects with
relatives.
Francis Gallup partnered with S. C. Gallup in 1869 and by 1873 E. L.
Gallatin sold to his Denver, Colorado interest to Francis Gallup and
took over the Cheyenne, Wyoming Business with his Nephew F. A. Meanea
who became a very Famous Saddle Maker in his own right, and in E. L.
Gallatin’s later years F. A. Meanea bought out Gallatin’s interest in
the business.
